Dr. Hossein Sojoudi is Professor and Chair of the Mechanical, Industrial, and Manufacturing Engineering (MIME) Department at the University of Toledo, a position he assumed after serving successfully as Interim Chair. He also serves as Acting Chair of the Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET) program within the College of Engineering. Prior to joining UToledo, he was a Postdoctoral Associate and Lecturer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), jointly appointed in Mechanical and Chemical Engineering. He earned his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Georgia Tech.

As Interim Chair, Dr. Sojoudi prioritized student success by expanding industry partnerships, enhancing experiential learning, and modernizing student spaces. These efforts created more hands-on learning opportunities, increased philanthropic support, and improved the educational environment. He also led initiatives to revitalize and expand student clubs and organizations, recognizing their critical role in student engagement, leadership development, experiential learning, and recruitment. In recognition of his leadership and commitment to student success, he received the Mid-American Conference Outstanding Faculty Award for Student Success (2025) and the Lancelot C.A. Thompson Service to Students Award (2026), presented as part of The University of Toledo's Donald S. Parks Student Organization Awards for his outstanding contributions to promoting and strengthening student clubs and organizations within the College of Engineering.

A dedicated researcher and innovator, Dr. Sojoudi’s work focuses on surface science and interfacial thermal-fluid engineering, with applications in energy systems and mitigation of atmospheric icing. He has published over 80 peer-reviewed journal papers and conference proceedings and holds six patents, reflecting his entrepreneurial approach to engineering. His work has been cited more than 5,900 times, and his research excellence has been recognized with honors including the UToledo President’s Award for Excellence in Creative and Scholarly Activity (2022), the College of Engineering Excellence in Research Award (2021), and the Excellence in Supervision of Undergraduate Research Award (2020).

Passionate about teaching and mentorship, Dr. Sojoudi taught over 2,000 students in thermal-fluid sciences and advised 9 Ph.D., 13 M.S., and more than 25 undergraduate students. His commitment to education earned him the University Outstanding Teacher Award (2023) and the Outstanding Advisor Award (2025). Beyond his department, he served as a Provost Faculty Fellow and held roles on the University Research and Graduate Councils. He is also an alumnus of the University of Toledo Leadership Institute, a graduate of the Mid-American Conference Academic Leadership Development Program (MAC-ALDP), and serves as Member-at-Large of the ASME Mechanical Engineering Department Heads Executive Committee, reflecting his commitment to advancing engineering education and academic leadership at both the institutional and national levels.
